  1. French Grid Code Compliance:
    • Ensure that BESS designs and configurations comply with the French Grid Code and other applicable regulations.
    • Provide guidance on grid connection requirements and ensure all BESS projects are aligned with national grid codes, including voltage, frequency, and reactive power management.
    • Stay updated on changes to French grid regulations and industry standards, ensuring the company’s projects remain compliant with evolving requirements.
  2. Grid Connection Support:
    • Support the technical aspects of grid connection for BESS systems, ensuring smooth integration with utility grids.
    • Assist in the preparation of connection applications, feasibility studies, and grid impact assessments for BESS projects.
    • Provide input on the electrical design of BESS installations to ensure grid synchronization, load balancing, and compliance with grid operator requirements.

Power Management Systems (PMS) Integration:

  1. PMS Configuration & Integration:
    • Work closely with engineering and technical teams to configure and integrate Power Management Systems (PMS) for optimal performance of BESS solutions.
    • Assist in the configuration of PMS parameters, including load flow, state of charge (SOC) management, energy dispatch, and fault detection.
    • Provide expertise on the integration of PMS with battery storage systems, grid interfaces, and renewable energy sources (e.g., solar, wind) to maximize operational efficiency.
  2. System Optimization:
    • Conduct simulations and performance analysis of BESS systems to ensure optimal operation and load management in line with grid demands.
    • Provide recommendations for system improvements to enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of the PMS in grid-connected environments.
    • Work on advanced control algorithms to enhance system performance, taking into account dynamic grid conditions, battery aging, and other system variables.

Network & Cybersecurity:

  1. Network Design & Integration:
    • Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to design and implement secure, scalable, and resilient network architectures for BESS and PMS systems.
    • Ensure proper integration of BESS systems with local area networks (LAN), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and other operational technologies.
    • Monitor and optimize network performance to ensure real-time data communication between BESS systems, PMS, grid operators, and aggregators.
  2. Cybersecurity:
    • Apply cybersecurity best practices to protect BESS and PMS systems from cyber threats, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of system data.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations for cybersecurity (e.g., NERC CIP, IEC 62443) for grid-connected systems.
    • Implement secure remote monitoring and control systems for BESS, ensuring proper authentication, encryption, and access control mechanisms are in place.
    • Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify and mitigate cybersecurity risks in BESS systems and networks.

Aggregator Interface & Market Integration:

  1. Aggregator Interface:
    • Interface with energy aggregators to ensure BESS systems are correctly integrated into demand-side management programs, virtual power plants (VPPs), and energy market platforms.
    • Support the development of protocols and communication interfaces between BESS systems and aggregator platforms, facilitating market participation, dispatch, and real-time data exchange.
    • Ensure that BESS systems can be dynamically controlled and optimized through aggregator platforms, enabling active participation in energy markets, frequency regulation, and ancillary services.
  2. Market Participation & Optimization:
    • Assist in the configuration and optimization of BESS systems to participate in energy market programs such as frequency regulation, grid balancing, and peak shaving.
    • Work with aggregators and grid operators to maximize the value of energy storage through optimized dispatch strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance and cost-effectiveness.

Technical Support & Application Engineering:

  1. Pre-Sales Support:
    • Support the sales team in the pre-sales phase by providing technical expertise related to grid connection, PMS integration, aggregator interfaces, and network/cybersecurity considerations in BESS solutions.
    • Assist in designing customized energy storage solutions based on customer needs and the characteristics of the local grid infrastructure.
    • Prepare technical documentation, feasibility studies, and regulatory compliance reports for tendering purposes.
  2. Customer & Stakeholder Interaction:
    • Collaborate with clients, grid operators, aggregators, and regulatory authorities to ensure BESS system designs meet operational and compliance requirements.
    • Act as a technical advisor to clients on the integration of BESS with grid systems, providing insights into optimizing energy storage for grid services and market participation.
  3. Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:
    • Provide support for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to PMS configuration, grid connection, aggregator interfaces, cybersecurity, and BESS system integration.
    • Analyze system performance data and identify areas for improvement, helping to resolve issues promptly and minimize operational downtime.

System Design & Engineering:

  1. System Sizing & Technical Specifications:
    • Work with project teams to determine the appropriate sizing of BESS systems based on grid connection requirements, load profiles, and performance criteria.
    • Develop and review technical specifications for BESS projects, ensuring all components, from batteries to PMS, meet design and regulatory requirements.
    • Provide guidance on the selection of appropriate power electronics, transformers, inverters, and other system components required for seamless grid and aggregator integration.
  2. Commissioning & Testing:
    • Assist with the commissioning and testing of BESS systems, ensuring they meet performance and grid connection standards.
    • Ensure that systems are fully operational, test the integration with grid infrastructure, aggregator platforms, and verify the correct functioning of all control and monitoring systems.

Documentation & Reporting:

  1. Technical Documentation:
    • Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including system designs, grid connection studies, commissioning reports, and compliance certifications.
    • Document all technical aspects of the BESS and PMS integration, including configuration, performance, and operational parameters.
  2. Performance Reporting:
    • Provide regular performance reports to internal teams and clients, highlighting key metrics such as system efficiency, battery life, cybersecurity measures, and grid and aggregator interaction.

 

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Energy Systems, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • Advanced certifications in energy systems, grid integration, or cybersecurity (preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or related energy storage technologies.
  • Proven experience with Power Management Systems (PMS), including configuration and integration for energy storage applications.
  • Strong knowledge of the French Grid Code and relevant national regulations related to grid connection for energy storage systems.
  • Experience working with energy aggregators and market participation in demand-side management, virtual power plants (VPPs), or similar programs.
  • Experience in networking and cybersecurity for industrial control systems, energy storage, or power management solutions.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity standards for operational technology (e.g., NERC CIP, IEC 62443) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of HV is a plus

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of BESS technologies (e.g., lithium-ion, flow batteries) and their integration with electrical grids.
  • Expertise in Power Management Systems (PMS) and their role in optimizing energy storage and grid performance.
  • Knowledge of network architecture, communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC), and industrial control systems (e.g., SCADA, PLC).
  • Proficiency in implementing cybersecurity measures such as encryption, access control, and threat detection for industrial systems.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 or other communication protocols used in power systems and grid integration.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
  • Knowledge of aggregator platforms and energy market protocols for integrating storage systems into demand-side management or virtual power plant networks.
